Donna Akbari

Speech Pathologist

Donna has a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology Therapy which she completed at The University of Sydney, graduating in 2015. She is currently completing her PhD in the area of tongue-ties, and will hopefully be finished soon!

Before joining Patches, Donna worked in the acute care setting at Alice Springs Hospital, where she assessed and treated children and adults with a range of swallowing and communication disorders.  Donna has worked with children and adults with a range of diagnoses and learning difficulties including Brain Injuries, Stroke, Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Global Developmental Delay and Intellectual Disability. She loves working in rural and remote settings and is passionate about providing equitable health care across all regions.

Donna began working with Patches in 2020, and her fields of interest are feeding and swallowing disorders and finds joy in supporting adults with their mealtimes.
In her spare time, she enjoys camping, hiking and spending time with her groodle, Ted. She is a founding member of the Alice Springs Cookbook Club.
